Career panel/speaker - speak with students or teachers about your career, usually an informal question/answer format with 2/3 other speakers (a career panel)

Job Shadow - allows a student or teacher to spend 2-4 hours with someone on the job, in a career area of their interest.

Mentor - makes a commitment to meet with a student(s) regularly (over an agreed upon period of time) to serve as a role model and to give support with educational and career goals.

E-mentor - corresponds on-line over a specified period of time with a student, providing career development support.

Internship - allows a student or teacher to work in a specific job in order to gain valuable on the job experience (can be paid or unpaid, hours vary).

Apprenticeship - student learns an occupation in a structured program sponsored by employees and an employee association or labor union.

Work experience - students receive course credit for both their classroom and work experience under the supervision of a school and worksite coordinator.

Clinical experience - designed to offer students the opportunity to practice their skills in real-life activities in a professional setting, supervised by school and worksite staff.

Worksite visitation - a planned and structured event where students or teachers visit the workplace in order to gain valuable information about the expectations of specific industries/jobs.

Business/teacher event - a structured breakfast, lunch, or dinner where teachers and business people focus on how to better prepare students for the world of work.

Advisory/steering committee - usually a one year commitment to meet regularly (2-6 times per year) to give input into curriculum and/or program development.

Community Service - any volunteer service provided by student in support of community needs.

Service Learning - develops students skills while meeting a community need, connected to a classroom project or academic learning.

Informational interview - a formal individual or small group interview of a business or industry employee. (May be done by phone or email)

Career faire - any staged collaborative event that features student access to an array of potential employers.

Job - paid part-time or full-time employment

Mock interview - students practice job interview skills with community volunteers through the school classroom or local business/education intermediary organization.
